Yorkshire Dales Explorer – usage
Our thanks go to Bill Briggs, our Membership Secretary and RVR News editor who has travelled on virtually every Yorkshire Dales Explorer train to collect and collate accurate passenger numbers on behalf of the Community Rail Partnership. On the few occasions he has had other commitments, Peter Eastham, along with other RVR Committee members, have travelled and filled in the gaps.
Bill’s journeys have also resulted in several new members for RVR, as a result of questions from and chats with passengers. We have also witnessed the large amount of goodwill and support from those on the train, together with frequent questions about any possibilities of increasing the number of trains and operating days.
For the four Saturdays of March 2025, passenger/journeys over the Clitheroe – Hellifield section were 108/95/72/48 – not bad for wintertime with no organised walks.
There continues to be a number of groups visiting Clitheroe from Settle and Hellifield.

The DalesBus 80 (Lancaster/Ingleton/Hawes) was a bit unreliable at first but now that a turning space at the station has been identified, things have stabilised somewhat.
